Signal Lost Project

WATCH GAMEPLAY WALKTHROUGH

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Designing player choice through verticality, sightlines and encounter flow.

Signal Lost is a personal Unreal Engine 5 level design project set around a remote jungle listening station. The level explores player guidance through landmarks, layered traversal routes, combat encounters and environmental storytelling, with the radio telescope acting as the central visual anchor throughout the experience.

KEY LESSONS LEARNED

Building a level is easier than building a believable space.

One of the biggest lessons from this project was understanding how scale, proportions and traversal distances affect player perception. What looked correct from a top-down layout often felt completely different once experienced in-game. Iteration became essential not only for combat encounters, but also for navigation, environmental readability and overall player comfort.

The project also gave me valuable hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5, helping me better understand production workflows, world building and the relationship between gameplay needs and environmental composition.
